Your Thoughts drive Your Future

How many of you believe in the idea that the way you think has some effect on your life – that your thoughts are connected to your future?

Imagine this. We think 60-70 thousand thoughts in 1 day. Out of those 60-70 thousand thoughts we think in 1 day, 90% are the same as the day before. 95% of our behaviours, our habits and automatic emotional reactions are unconscious patterns and programs. So when we do not pay any attention to our thoughts, that we are being lived and directed by our unconscious programs.

The famous phychologist Carl Gustav Jung already said decades ago: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

The more I learned about our internal communication and language through Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), the more I started to recognise what many famous enlightened and successful people that I admired were talking about. Dr. Joe Dispenza, Byron Katie, Teal Swan, Tony Robbins, the Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle… just to name a few. They all agree on how our mind is a key to success and happiness.

The above statistics and much of the wording I use in this post are from Dr. Joe Dispenza. He has found such a practical and tangible way to explain this! After healing his own vertebrae through thought alone (!!), he dedicated his life to teach people about and to research this incredible connection between the mind and our body. In this blog I’m sharing his teachings as I listened to him in the interview with Tom Bilyeu from his interview series Impact Theory (link to the video below).

That our thoughts drive our emotions, I already knew that for a while. But the way Dr. Dispenza describes it makes it quite powerful. He says that the same thoughts drive the same behaviours. The same behaviours drive the same experiences. And the same experiences trigger the same emotions. These emotions enforce your thoughts again. How you think, how you act and how you feel, is called your personality. And your personality creates your personal reality. By the time we are 35, our personality is a memorised set of behaviours, emotional reactions, unconscious habits, hardwired attitudes, beliefs and perceptions that function like a computer program. Now if you wake up in the morning and you are not defined by a vision of your future, and you don’t feel the possibility and inspiration of that future, you will continue living based on that computer program based on your past.

If you follow that, you know that when you want to create a new reality, a new life, with new results, then you will have to start thinking about what you have been thinking about. To become aware of your unconscious thoughts, your automatic habits and emotional reactions and modify them. You will have to decide if the thoughts and emotions that you have very often, if they belong in your future.”

So if we don’t want to live our lives based on habits and a brain as a record of the past, it means we have to create new connections in our brain – to start living towards the future that we want. The good news is that our brain can learn to make and create new patterns and habits! Actually, learning IS making new connections in our brain.

If we want different results in our lives, we probably won’t achieve that with a brain as a record of the past. So we want to make new connections in our brain. We can do that by starting to imagine our success. If you only get one thing from this blog let it be this: In the morning when you wake up, for a few minutes drive your thoughts to the future you envision. Picture your day going great… imagine the interesting interactions you’ll have with people today. Imagine learning something new and moving forward. Imagine feeling inspired, feel the feeling of inspiration. Imagine the growth it will bring you for your career, by doing the right things today. Start picturing this vision you have of the future and use your inner voice to be your cheerleader. This is when your brain starts making a record of the future.  “The best way to predict your future, is to create it.” Dr. Joe Dispenza

I hope you’ll be inspired as well and that you will learn as much from him as I did! Have a great week!
